Soy candles last 50% longer than candles made of petroleum-based paraffin, the ingredient found in most candles. They also burn slower and cooler (helping to better distribute fragrance), are non-toxic, less likely to trigger allergies, clean up with soap and water, and produce very little soot. These factors tend to make them more animal and child-friendly than traditional candles.

Soy wax is also a favorite of environmentally conscious consumers. Made from American-grown soybeans, it’s biodegradable, a renewable resource, and from a global point of view, it “supports the U.S. economy instead of foreign oil conglomerates.”

Want to know how to make your own Eco – Friendly Soy Candles. I found these via Amanda over at Ruffled they are super cute and a great idea to make in stockpile and put away for gifts or to use yourself.

What you’ll need:

- Soy wax flakes (can be purchased in bulk in places like here…or at your local candle supply shop )

- Wick

- Containers. They can be vintage teacups, recycled jars, old tumblers, Depression glass goblets … the possibilities are endless

- Pitcher with spout

- Fragrance oil (I recommend this Etsy store there are so many to choose from) or essential oils for a more natural approach

- Popsicle sticks, chopsticks, or something to hold the wick (Amanda drilled a hole in the middle of Popsicle sticks, but you can also find readymade ones at candle supply stores)

- Candle dye, optional

- decorations

I love coffee….. the smell, mmmm the taste the way it gets me going in the morning! I have also heard that caffeine helps with *cellulite*

Obviously this lotion wont get rid of cellulite but team it with a healthy diet, 2 litres plus of water a day and exercise, it may help, who knows. It’s worth a try isn’t it? Worst case scenario you will want to lick your arm or even worse eat it from time to time

Research suggests that caffeine cannot be absorbed through your skin if it’s found in soap check out this DIY Cafe Au Lait Recipe A caffeinated lotion is a different story as you are rubbing it on your skin not washing it off. So you can probably expect a little pick me up from the use of this product. However, if you’re caffeine sensitive or “off ” the caffeine for any reason, swap regular coffee for a decaffeinated coffee in your recipe.

You Will Need

Emulsifying Wax

Almond Oil

Coconut Oil

Sunflower Oil

1/2 cup Strongly Brewed Coffee ( use beans not instant that way you can use the left over grounds as a DIY Coffee Body Scrub just add olive oil and voila Coffee Body Scrub )

Essential Oils ( 60 drops per 100ml maximum ) grapefruit essential oil helps to boost digestion, benefits the immune system by helping to clear the lymphatic system, helps with skin problems, and can be used for muscle stiffness, water retention and for bolstering the nervous system. It is also photo toxic and can irritate the skin if exposed to strong sunlight after application so NO sunbaking!!

2-3 Vitamin E Capsules

Glass Jar

Mixing Spoon

I found this recipe via momphotographer pop over and check out her page for the step by step tutorial complete with pictures.

*According to Esthetician Jennifer Tanner from CancerLynx.com, when coffee is applied topically it redistributes fat cells and helps to prevent cellulite from forming. She goes on to say that it helps to get rid of varicose veins by shrinking and tightening your blood vessels*

Nothing worse than being sick and not just any sick – throw-up sick. Avoid the drama this christmas by arming yourself with all the tools needed to fight the germs in a non toxic manner. Be realistic though unless you have an immune-compromised person in your house, try not to overdo it. Embrace a little dirt at times. On the other hand, if you’ve got a known stomach virus floating around…unless you really enjoy nasty laundry and carpet stains, it’s time to bring out the big guns! Do you have the following items in your house ( Vinegar, Hydrogen Peroxide, Boiling Water & Rubbing Alcohol ) if so pop on over and read all about what Katie Kimball has to say for yourself. Not only does her article provide you with recipes we all know and love but it mentions a few other ones I have not heard of before. Armed with this knowledge and the well thought out plan of attack in seeking out your target, you cannot go wrong. Why not decorate your tree with some DIY melt and pour christmas ornaments this year. Not only do they look pretty but they can also add fragrance to the home if you add a christmassy scent. They also add a personal touch to the big day. I know you are thinking it’s not the same as traditional decorations but I like the concept. So go on try something different, ditch the lights and have a crack at decorating your tree. Looks pretty, smells divine as well as serving a purpose. Your guests will all have a tiny keepsake to remember the big day by.

Kids love Lego with so why not make some lego soap to go in their stocking too!!! These are cool I bet there will be no problem getting kids to wash up before it’s time to sit down to turkey on the big day. Obviously not for eating be sure to write “not for human consumption” on the label somewhere because if I was a kid I would most definitely pop one of these in my mouth!!! Step it up a notch and add cranberry or peppermint scents to make it smell christmassy

Made from Melt and Pour Soap you can use any colour you like in the insert. For this recipe however GPE have gone with Tomato Red scented with Christmas Garland . You can pretty much buy everything you need to make this from GPE from what I hear their Mold Market Square Loaf is one of their top sellers. This inexpensive holiday gag gift is easy to make for office gifts, Secret Santa exchanges or stocking stuffers. To make Snowman Poop simply follow the easy Snowman Soap Suprise Balls recipe I posted about earlier this week, be sure to make them smaller to resemble snowman poop. Once they are done simply fill a small zipper food storage bag or decorated cellophane treat bag with the desired number of poop balls, tie it and attach a gift tag with the following poem.

I hear you’ve been naughty,
So listen, here’s the scoop…
I’m running short on coal this year,
So you get “Snowman Poop”
Love, Santa

You can either have a handwritten tag or Print a free printable Snowman Poop Gift Tag.

Do you know how hard it is to just buy a small amount of walnut shell. So frustrating you either have to buy kilos of the stuff or place a minimum order of over $50 at most online soap supplies retailers ( in Australia that is ) I am only after 50 grams and I can’t put fresh walnut shell in my coffee grinder ( hubby will have my head ) I was almost about to give up completely when I came across 20 gram packets of finely ground walnut shell on ebay for $2.50 with free postage in Australia……….. and with over 200 packets available……….Can anyone say Boo Yah!!!!
