This is my last post as I will be commencing synchronising swimming this summer………….. Only joking I have started studying nursing to eventually become a midwife. I have enjoyed the last 12 months no end. Thank you to all who have read my words encouraged/corrected me on my grammar at times and just made this whole experience quite pleasurable. In a sense it has prepared me for study this year as it has been quite awhile. Before I leave some things to remember. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder…………BUT……. if you want to look as good as possible do this A – eat a balanced diet, B- drink lots of water and finally C – slip slop slap!!! The above combined with a skincare routine and you have all bases covered.

DIY Melt and Pour Valentine Heart Soaps Project

Check out this Melt & Pour Valentines Day Project that is based on small moulded pieces of soap that are floated in a larger bar of soap. This technique is known as “embeds” I LOVE these soaps seriously anyone can make these check out the step by step tutorial complete with pictures I found via David Fisher on About.com

For this project you will need

Some clear and white melt and pour soap base
Fragrance or essential oil (if desired)
Red soap colorant
A rubber “heart” ice-cube tray
Heart shaped cookie cutter
Rubbing Alcohol in spray bottle
Basic setup for Melt and Pour Soap Making

DIY Chocolate N Almond Oil Body Scrub – Valentines Day Gift Idea

Whether your lady is eating, drinking or smothering it on her body, chocolate is always a guaranteed hit come Valentines Day. How about a body scrub for something different. Like this homemade beauty treatment I found via SpaMagazine which combines chocolate, almond oil and nutmeg to create a decadent Valentine’s Day treat for you and your sweetheart to enjoy together

YOU WILL NEED

3 Tbsp. water
3 Tbsp. honey
2 squares of unsweetened chocolate (100% cacao)
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup sweet almond oil
4 drops sandalwood essential oil
2 drops vanilla essential oil (1/8 tsp. vanilla extract may also be substituted)
12 grates of nutmeg

Directions:

1. Microwave chocolate, water and honey for 30 seconds. Add the sugar, almond oil, essential oils and nutmeg and blend well.

2. Store in a clean plastic, glass or tin container.

To use: Apply the mixture to damp skin in a warm shower. Scrub gently in circular motions. Rinse. Lightly pat the skin dry and follow with the Champagne Honey Bath.

The following won’t cost the earth nor will it require too much “expertise” as the instructions are so easy to follow a 5 year old could make these. Mix it up a little with different variations tailored to your loved ones tastes and voila. Win win. Easy on the pocket, easy on you ( skill wise ) and easily pleased loved one. To make this for yourself you will need

Teacup & saucer

Small bottle with lid or cork try for a 50ml bottle

Sweet almond oil or any other carrier oil of your choice

Essential oil/s of your choice 10 drops per 50ml

Crushed sage

Dried fennel seeds

Shea butter

Muslin cloth

Oatmeal

Ground almonds

Ginger essential oil.

Homemade Sugar Scrub in Decorated Jars

After a gift idea for someone special or just something for yourself, I liked the look of these jars I found over at Maybe Matilda . You all know how to make a basic scrub right? Whether it be a face scrub or a body scrub why not make one of these jars to personalise your gift and make it that little bit more special.

YOU WILL NEED

jars

cute scrapbook papers (you’ll only need a tiny bit, roughly 2 coordinating papers per jar)

Mod Podge

brush

scissors

button

twine/string

homemade/store bought scrub of your choice

DIY Eco Friendly Soy Wax Candles

Soy candles last 50% longer than candles made of petroleum-based paraffin, the ingredient found in most candles. They also burn slower and cooler (helping to better distribute fragrance), are non-toxic, less likely to trigger allergies, clean up with soap and water, and produce very little soot. These factors tend to make them more animal and child-friendly than traditional candles.

Soy wax is also a favorite of environmentally conscious consumers. Made from American-grown soybeans, it’s biodegradable, a renewable resource, and from a global point of view, it “supports the U.S. economy instead of foreign oil conglomerates.”

Want to know how to make your own Eco – Friendly Soy Candles. I found these via Amanda over at Ruffled they are super cute and a great idea to make in stockpile and put away for gifts or to use yourself.

What you’ll need:

- Soy wax flakes (can be purchased in bulk in places like here…or at your local candle supply shop )

- Wick

- Containers. They can be vintage teacups, recycled jars, old tumblers, Depression glass goblets … the possibilities are endless

- Pitcher with spout

- Fragrance oil (I recommend this Etsy store there are so many to choose from) or essential oils for a more natural approach

- Popsicle sticks, chopsticks, or something to hold the wick (Amanda drilled a hole in the middle of Popsicle sticks, but you can also find readymade ones at candle supply stores)

- Candle dye, optional

Another pink pretty from How Do I make Soaps page. You don’t have to keep it pink either, play around with the colours a bit. I do like this though. To get started you will need the following.

Supplies Needed:

1. Snowflake Clamshell molds

2. 1 pound of clear melt and pour soap base

3. 5 oz white melt and pour soap base

4. Tropical Red Colorant

5. Micro Sparkle Soap Glitter

6. 3/4 oz Creamy Pomegranate Fragrance Oil

6. Microwavable measuring cup

7. Fork

8. Small amount of rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle
