Making rosewater

5 Orange Potatoes has another lovely tutorial to share on making your own rosewater. This method takes a bit longer than other methods, but is very simple and doesn’t involve any cooking. Rosewater is fantastic and has many uses, including adding to your bath water for a relaxing scent, as a gentle facial toner, a skin spritzer to help cool down skin, and as an air freshener. You can also cook with it! (Please make sure your roses are pesticide free if making rosewater to cook with.)

Botanical Name: Citrullus vulgaris
Aroma: Faint. Slightly Nutty.
Viscosity: Light.
Absorption/Feel: Penetrates Well.
Color: Yellow.
Shelf Life: Indefinite/Highly Stable

Notes: Watermelon Seed Oil (WSO) is a very nourishing yet light oil with good absorption. It is a good choice for use with oily skin but can be effective with all skin types. Its viscosity, mild aroma and indefinite shelf life make it a good all-purpose carrier oil for use in aromatherapy. Other thicker oils and oils with shorter shelf lives can be blended with Watermelon Seed Oil to lighten their texture and aroma and extend their overall shelf life.

Himalayan salt recipes

Himalayan salt is a therapeutic salt from the Himalayan Mountains containing 84 minerals, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and iron. It is also a lovely shade of pink!

Try these Himalayan salt recipes from the San Francisco Bath Salt Company to help cleanse, detoxify and purify your skin, among other benefits.

The after-hitting-the-gym Bath
Whew- You’ve worked out hard and can feel it! Your muscles are sore and you need to get some relief. Take a bath!

1 cup Himalayan Salt
10 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
10 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

The PMS Bath
It’s that time of the month again and you’ve been bombarded by cramps. Take time out to take a bath!

1 cup Himalayan Salt
15 drops Lavender Essential Oil
10 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

For each recipe: In a small bowl, add the essential oil drops suggested for the bath of your choice to the Himalayan salt. Mix well and then add to a tub of warm water. Each recipe will be the perfect amount for one soak.

Itchy cure bath recipe

Itchy Cure Bath Recipe

1 Cup Powdered Milk
1 Cup Oatmeal (Rolled Oats)
1 Cup Lavender Flowers
1/2 Cup Chamomile Flowers
2 Cups Sea Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Lavender Essential Oil
1 Muslin Drawstring Bag

Mix together Lavender and Chamomile Flowers. Add Powdered Milk and Oatmeal, mix well. Stir in Sea Salt. Sprinkle with Lavender Essential Oil and mix well.

Store mixture in large, decorated Mason Jars with an air tight lid. Scoop a large handful of mixture in to a Muslin Bag to use.

Tie the bag onto the faucet and then start your bath. Once your tub is full, allow the bag to float in the bath water so the goodness continues to seep out as you soak.

After your bath, empty and wash the Muslin Bag. Set it aside to dry so you can use it for your next bath.
