pink ribbonI’ve mentioned in previous posts that Essential Wholesale is a great source for all of your raw ingredients. I love the products they offer and their shea butter and cocoa butter is deeeeeeevine.  In fact, right now through 12/31/2007 you can get FREE shipping on orders over$250 - which is a great deal if you like to order your butters, waxes and fixed oils in bulk!
Today I received their e-newsletter and while I am not in need of anything right now I went ahead and opened up the newsletter. (Didn’t want to cause any temptation for myself you know!)

Below is an article contained in the newsletter, reprinted with the permission of Essential Wholesale that got my attention. I hope it gets your attention too - and if anything at all that it reminds everyone to make sure that you go in for your yearly exams.

heatherMeet Heather Davis
You simply cannot plan for the challenges and adversity that life brings. You cannot know the level of strength required to conquer the next challenge until you are suddenly standing face to face with it. Heather Davis is a great example of being faced with unplanned and unexpected challenges. Heather is my Personal Assistant and has been working for Essential Wholesale since June of 2007. She is a 37 year old mother who in the Fall of 2007 found a lump in her breast. Her family has a history of breast cancer so she took it very seriously. Immediately the doctor believed that it was breast cancer. This fall she had a lumpectomy and found that she had a rare form of hereditary breast cancer. On January 2, 2008 she will start her first round of chemotherapy. Heather faces the New Year with new challenges but with bravery. Ahead she has chemo, hormone and radiation treatments.

Heather and her husband, of fifteen and a half years, Eric, have two children: Carley, 13, and Cole, 11. Her children attend Crossroad Christian School . Carley is in 7th grade. She is a go getter with a 4.0 and is an aspiring poet. Cole is in 5th grade and is a great athlete. His baseball team went to the Little League State Finals. He has been invited to play on the Jr. High basketball team despite his young age. Heather makes sure she attends as many of her kids’ games as humanly possible. Heather grew up on Mount Hood but has lived in Portland for the past 15 years.

This summer Heather was part of our “Mom Squad”. She started taking care of some of my errands, organizing my life and keeping things running smoothly. Her plan was to go back to work at the school this fall, but I couldn’t live without her once she took over organizing my life. She has become an important part of our family and Essential Wholesale. I have been touched by the outpouring of support from the Essential Wholesale Family to Heather. Heather hopes that her experience will motivate women to get regular check ups and do self checks. At the time of her diagnosis, she was only a few days from being signed up on our AFLAC cancer plan which would have had a 30 day waiting period. She also hopes that others will plan ahead with plans like AFLAC and life insurance, because you just never know what could happen tomorrow.

Heather says, “Dennis & Kayla have been an absolute Godsend and are amazingly wonderful to work for. I could not have found two more caring, kind and compassionate people to work for. The awesome thing is that the entire staff at Essential Wholesale is wonderfully nice too! Working for the Fioravantis has turned out to be an incredibly special blessing for me. I get to spend time with their 3 amazing children and I love them as if they were my own. I get to hang out in their gorgeous home, drive their beautiful cars and whenever I have a doctor’s appointment they are so accommodating. When I had surgery they even gave me work to do from home so that I wouldn’t lose any pay! Can you think of any job where your bosses would give you time off to go to all your own kid’s basketball games, go to doctors appointments, or loan you their vehicle when your vehicle’s alternator gives out?”

Breast cancer at any time in life is challenging to face. The Essential Wholesale Family is large and includes our employees and customers. One of our family members is faced with a medical challenge that is creating financial hardship. We want to bring the resources of many together to help Heather Davis. Heather will miss a lot of work in the coming months. Her medical expenses and family expenses continue to climb and pile up. We are dedicating these products to her medical fund. We chose to scent these Pink Ribbon products with Pink Grapefruit for many reasons. Pink Grapefruit is a happy scent that makes everyone smile, it is universally liked by both men and women and it is pink which is perfect for a Pink Ribbon product. For the first time Essential Wholesale is offering these products in a personal use size. We want to make it easy for everyone to help, even if you don’t sell shampoo, conditioner and lotion in your business. All profits of 32 oz, 1/2 gallon, 1 gallon and 5 gallon sizes of the Pink Grapefruit Lotion, Pink Grapefruit Shampoo and Pink Grapefruit Conditioner will go towards the Heather Davis Medical Fund.
