NO MORE DIRTY LOOKS – O’CONNOR – SPUNT.

Most of us don’t realize that the products we use every day can expose us to thousands of chemicals that are readily absorbed through our skin. I recently had the pleasure of reading “No More Dirty Looks”  from cover to cover. As a mother of 2  who is not only concerned about her own health but the health of my family  and the planet I found this book to be not only informative but a serious wake up call for me. Putting  all my faith as a consumer in the arms of the  government/beauty industry, I soon learnt  that the types & amounts of chemicals in beauty products today is quite sickening. For those of you out there who like me are quite concerned with what you put on your body  ”No More Dirty Looks” will quickly become  your “bible”  I loved reading this book, it was hard for me to put it down.   O’Connor & Spunt open a window to a world where personal care products & safety can co – exist and  they do so with honesty, no sugar coating here. This book includes

* The most dangerous ingredients in widely – used – brands and how there still not regulated.

* Insider secrets from top scientists, dermatologists and experts.

* The 100 best clean makeup, haircare and skin care products.

* Cheap & simple do – it – yourself beauty recipes.

“No More Dirty Looks” is a must have for all women if you haven’t thought about reading this book be sure to put it on your “Bucket List”

I’ve recently started making my own deo and shampoo out of natural products, and find that they work far better for me than most commercial products, plus I feel much better knowing that I’m not applying any chemicals onto my face or body. I’d love to win this book to give me a better perspective on the beauty product industry as well as get good reliable beauty recipes as well. Thanks for the chance!

  2. Lorelei on March 21, 2011 5:46 am

I have to admit, I have put my faith in products that are supposed to be hypoallergenic, but what about the chemicals? I have even forgotten to check the shampoos for harmfull chemicals….I definitely need a refresher course!

  3. Barbara on March 21, 2011 5:49 am

I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE to win this book! As a woman with fair, sensitive, aging skin and LOTS of allergies, I’d love to creat my own products that work and are gentle to the skin, without lots of unpronounceable names. Thanks for the opportunity!

  4. Chris on March 21, 2011 5:52 am

I only like to use natural products and would love this book to read and pass along to my college friends. thanks.

  5. Lee on March 21, 2011 5:53 am

I am interested in learning what would be good to put on my face! thanks!

  6. Elizabeth on March 21, 2011 6:21 am

I have been trying to make my make up routine healthier for a couple years now! Would love to learn new info!

  7. Tifani on March 21, 2011 7:14 am

I would love to win this book , as I have recently been very intrigued by natural products for both mine and my families skin and our home. I have tried the diy laundry soap and started using natural oils for our skin care. But I would love to read even more to help convince my husband that sometimes it is best to diy it!

  8. Ila East on March 21, 2011 7:27 am

I would love this book because I think we have been brainwashed by the companies that make skin care, hair care, and body care products into using all this stuff. I would love to get the low-down on all this jazz.

  9. liz on March 21, 2011 7:34 am

Would love to add this to my library. I am a Holistic Nutritionist and advise people to remove products with fragrances and other estrogen mimicking compounds from their beauty bag. This would provide additional info and specifics to share with others.

  10. Miquela on March 21, 2011 8:05 am

I went several years without wearing cosmetics, but I miss the compliments my husband used to give me when I would wear a little foundation and eye makeup. I want to start wearing a little now and then and using more skin care products (preferably natural and DIY), but it freaks me out to think of all the chemical crud on my skin, infiltrating my pores, especially now that I’m a nursing mother. The topic of this book is fantastic, and I would love to win it for the lowdown on cosmetics as well as the make-at-home recipes.

  11. Taryn on March 21, 2011 9:41 am

I would love to win this book because I have three daughters that are entering into the teenage years and will be wanting to wear makeup soon. I would like to start them off and keep them as chemical free where I can and when I can.

  12. Judith on March 21, 2011 9:43 am

I’d like to try out the cheap and simple do-it–yourself beauty recipes.

  13. Lisa on March 21, 2011 9:53 am

Every day I try to do more than the last to live greener. I reduce, reuse and recycle everything I possibly can. I make my own cleaning products whenever possible. It has been eyeopening to actually read the ingredients in products and then to make similar substitutions with products in my pantry and NO chemicals. I’m always on the lookout for anything I can make myself. My and my family’s skin care is my obvious next step (probably should have been one of the first ones…)

  14. Elizabeth Taylor on March 21, 2011 10:10 am

with all of our allergies and what I’ve been reading about the effects of chemicals and hormones, we’ve been trying to “GO natural”, planting a large garden, etc. I never dreamed of the cosmetics being so bad, but would love this book to learn more. Thank you!

  15. Norrie B on March 21, 2011 10:25 am

I love makeup but have gotten out of the habit of wearing it lately. I’d love to start up again with a truly clean slate–thanks for hosting this giveaway!

  16. nomi on March 21, 2011 11:11 am

I would really like this because I’ve just recently moved to the states. In Germany, where I previously lived, food and cosmetics are much more strictly regulated and I knew exactly what brands were safe and green. Here I’m a bit lost. This book would be tremendously helpful.

  17. Claire on March 21, 2011 11:31 am

I’d love to win this book, I hate using chemicals on myself, I prefer to use “nothing” if I can’t find natural products, so this book would be right up my street.

  18. Sandy on March 21, 2011 11:34 am

I’m very interested in cosmetic safety. I’d like to have more information at my fingertips.

  19. Marcy Shapiro on March 21, 2011 11:50 am

I borrowed the book from the library but I would love to have the book for reference and to lend it out to all my girlfriends and family. so many people buy junky products that do harm. I want to share the knowledge!

  20. magda123 on March 21, 2011 12:22 pm

Last year after a serious skin allergy I started using all natural products, but don’t believe the lable if it says “All NATURAL” read the small print or Google for more info. Thanks for the book, I would love to read it.

  21. Debbie on March 21, 2011 7:19 pm

My sister has Lupus and I’d like to win a copy of this book to give to her. She needs to carefully read ingredients on everything she uses … from toothpaste to shampoo. Thanks for the nice giveaway.

  22. Saxie on March 21, 2011 7:20 pm

I would like to win this book because I think it will be something me and my sister could learn from, especially as young adults. I think if we realize what is bad for our bodies now then we can hopefully avoid some of the dangerous chemicals that can really affect us from prolonged use.

  23. Tess Ntamashmikiro on March 22, 2011 6:40 am

If I win this book, I can try al the recipies and pass on to friends what is good for you and what isn’t.

    Thx

  24. Jaan on March 22, 2011 6:51 am

We need to be aware of what really is in our beauty products. I make my own scrub for my face, body and hands. I use natural oils for my hair and body. Thanks for the chance to win this great book.

  25. Rachelxx on March 23, 2011 3:10 am

I’m allergic to at least one ingredient used in personal care products & also have an autoimmune disease. Have developed skin problems as I’ve got older – makes you wonder ……
This sounds like a wonderful book :-) Thanks for the chance to win it.

  26. Katie on March 25, 2011 5:16 am

Would love to win this because when it comes to beauty products, I’m a deer in headlights…

    Thanks :)

  29. karlin on March 28, 2011 4:05 am

For the past three years I’ve been very interested in chemical free, allergen free, make-up and skincare products. I’ve been experimenting with my own lotion concoction and aloe vera face cream for awhile also.

This book would be nice to have and it sounds like a good read and a definite keeper. Thank you Da Capo Life Long for helping educate us to a better life.

  30. Muireann on March 29, 2011 4:20 pm

I’d love to win this! I’m doing my best to change from commercial products to more natural products, but am finding it hard to find the information I need. I’d love to have one book I could use as my go-to resource, and this looks perfect!

  31. Pam Lucas on March 30, 2011 9:30 pm

I don’t like using chemicals on my skin. I would love to have this book to guide me as to what to use and what not to use. If I don’t win it I am going to look into purchasing it. Thanks for the opportunity to enter to win it.

  32. Lane' on April 1, 2011 2:36 am

I provide education and outreach to the public (I’m a Master Recycler) and have started making my own beauty/body products. My goal is to learn as much as I can and then hold classes and body product making parties to educate others.

  33. Jillian on April 2, 2011 5:43 pm

I want to win so I can read it! :)

  34. Bea O. on April 3, 2011 8:03 am

I’d love this book ’cause I knew some beauty products have certain chemicals that are not good for you and I’d want to know them. Also, I’ve been really careful of the products I’ve been using because I’ve got sensitive skin. This book would be very helpful. Great giveaway!

  35. Des L. on April 3, 2011 12:28 pm

I have extremely sensitive skin and have tried a myriad of products. I would like to find something natural to combat oily skin and to get it back into a balance. I find that I can only use certain shampoos and lotions and if I decide to change products I have instant breakouts. I’m just a girl looking for natural solutions and or warnings about what products not to use.

  36. Nicole on April 3, 2011 8:14 pm

I would love to win this book! I am learning to make my own body care items for exactly the reasons highlighted above! Interested in checking it out either way :)

  37. Sam on April 7, 2011 1:03 pm

I would love this book for me and my step daughter. She’s at an age where she is finally interested in make up but way to allergic/sensitive to things! and with my younger daughter growing up so quickly this will be (as said above) an excellent “refresher course” before she comes of age.

  38. cheryl on April 8, 2011 12:27 pm

This is a very important issue for me and I try (with mixed success) to spread the word to my family and friends. It’s amazing how reluctant people are to believe that the products they use can be so damaging. We are so marketed-to and brainwashed while believing that we’re making free and informed choices.

  39. Audra on April 9, 2011 9:53 am

I would love this because I have lupus, I never know what brands are better due to poor labeling. I don’t know how to make my own make up- I totally would just to provide better skin care to my “lupus rash”. Thanks so much for the chance to win.

  40. Kyria on April 10, 2011 9:06 am

Oh, I need this book! I’ve developed many allergies in the last several years, which has taught me a lot about what we put into and on our bodies. I am much more chemical-free than I was, but I have a lot to learn. If I won this book I would learn from it, then share it with everyone I could. It’s that important!

  41. Kenna R on April 10, 2011 1:05 pm

I would love to win this book so I could have the possibility of saving my skin from any more harmful chemicals than I am right now! I would love to learn about the products that I currently use and about new products that I don’t know anything about…. yet!

  42. Dollie on April 10, 2011 6:39 pm

I would like to win this book so that I can find out more about the best clean make up :)

  43. Tiffany Hileman on April 14, 2011 6:21 am

I would love to make my own makeup and body products! I make my own solution for my kids babywipes and would love to start making everything that I can from scratch! This would help me out a lot! I have a little girl and when she grows up I don’t want her to ‘have’ to put on make up with chemicals that could hurt her. I want her to be able to make her own or buy ‘clean’ make up that will be good for her! I am very into learning by seeing and I want to do this for her and for me!

  44. Dani Vilella on April 15, 2011 10:43 am

My sister is just starting beauty school and she is obsessesed with make-up – i would love to show her this book!

  45. Paula Wirfel on April 15, 2011 7:17 pm

I would love to win this book so that I can be more educated about what products are healthy to use and good for my face and skin.

  46. Meredith on April 16, 2011 2:36 pm

I have heard about this book and was told it is very eyeopening.

  47. Morgan Wilson on April 17, 2011 4:55 am

Just made my own olive oil lye soap…always like trying new recipes for stuff.

  48. patricia on April 17, 2011 6:15 am

This is right up my alley! i love to use natural products. it would be a great book to have! i have sensitive skin and harsh chemicals always make me break out or dry up!

  49. Alysha on April 17, 2011 8:07 am

This is a topic my best friend and I discuss frequently. She is much more educated on what is in womens make-up and over beauty products. We would love to share reading this together!
