Here are some natural treatments to Nappy or Diaper Rash. Whether you say diaper or nappy, the problem is still the same. There seems to be an ongoing (raging) debate as to whether cloth nappies prevent nappy rash or if disposable nappies are better at keeping baby dry. I am not going to go into that debate here, at the end of the day it doesn’t matter HOW your baby got a sore bot bot its about how we go about fixing the problem.
Babies little bottoms can cause them so much pain and discomfort and no parent wants to see that right?
Most of these things you will have in your pantry so you don’t have to rush out and buy a whole lot of items you probably wont need again, no excuses to leaving babies rash untreated.
Baking Soda –
This household ingredient is perfect for babies bottom assuming though that the skin is red and not yet broken.
Mix 2tbs of baking soda into the bath water.
Why? Baking soda helps to neutralise the acids on babies skin.
Corn Starch-
Often used as a home made talcum powder. Use 1-2 tbs as a baby powder onto babies bottom.
Why? The corn starch absorbs the moisture and pulls it away from the skin.
Coconut Oil –
I think by now we all know the wonders of coconut oil. Use 1 tsp on the bottom and lightly dab the affected area.
Why? Coconut oil is a natural antibiotic and anti fungal cream.
Oatmeal –
Take 2 tbs of oats and pop them into babies bath.
Why? Oatmeal naturally soothes inflamed skin.
Olive Oil –
Gently dab olive oil onto the bottom.
Why? Olive oil acts as a barrier preventing moisture settling onto babies skin.
