DIY Halloween Bubble Bars – Spooky Swirl Bath Treats

October 5, 2025 by Shellie Wilson Leave a Comment

Trick or treat… or tub time! These DIY Halloween Bubble Bars are a spooky twist on your usual bath ritual. Swirled with bold orange and black, they bubble beautifully under running water and fill the bathroom with cozy autumn scents like pumpkin spice, vanilla chai, or cinnamon apple. They’re perfect for Halloween gifting, boo baskets, or simply unwinding after a night of trick-or-treating.

Handmade with gentle ingredients and just the right amount of spook, these little bars bring some bubbly joy to your Halloween season.

Why You’ll Love This Project

  • Beautiful black and orange swirls for a Halloween look
  • Easy to make with simple ingredients
  • Creates real bubbly foam in the tub
  • Custom-scented with your favourite fall fragrances
  • Perfect for gifting in Halloween baskets or market stalls

Ingredients for Halloween Bubble Bars

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup SLSA (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate – a gentle bubbling agent)

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp vegetable glycerin
  • 2 tbsp melted coconut oil or shea butter
  • 1 tsp polysorbate 80 (optional, but helps with color dispersion and reduces tub mess)
  • Orange and black mica or soap-safe colorants
  • Fall-inspired fragrance or essential oils
  • Wax paper or parchment for rolling

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Mix Your Base

In a large bowl, combine the baking soda, cream of tartar, cornstarch, and SLSA. Stir gently to avoid creating a powder cloud.

2. Add Oils & Fragrance

In a smaller bowl, mix your melted coconut oil, glycerin, fragrance, and polysorbate 80. Slowly add this to your dry ingredients and stir until it forms a soft, moldable dough.

3. Divide and Colour

Split your dough into two equal parts. Add black colorant to one and orange to the other. Knead gently (wear gloves if you’d like to avoid spooky fingers).

4. Roll, Stack, and Swirl

On a piece of parchment paper, flatten each color into a rectangle. Stack them, then roll into a log—just like making a Halloween pinwheel cookie.

5. Slice Into Bars

Slice your log into thick, circular bars. Each one will have a haunting swirl that looks as good as it smells.

6. Let Them Dry

Place bars on parchment and let them air-dry for 48–72 hours. They’ll harden naturally and be ready for gift wrapping or your next bath.

How to Use

Crumble a piece of bubble bar under warm, running water. The more movement and water pressure, the more bubbles! For even fluffier results, crumble the bar in a mesh strainer under the tap.

Halloween Scent Ideas

  • Pumpkin Patch: Sweet pumpkin + nutmeg
  • Haunted Apple: Red apple + cinnamon
  • Witch’s Brew: Clove + vanilla + cedar
  • Spiced Chai: Cardamom + vanilla bean + ginger

Gifting Tips

These bubble bars make adorable handmade Halloween presents. Try:

  • Wrapping in cellophane with spiderweb ribbon
  • Pairing with handmade lip balm or bath salts in a themed “boo basket”
  • Adding a Halloween gift tag that reads “You’ve Been Boo’d – Bubble Bath Style!”
  • Tucking into mini cauldrons for a market-ready display

I made a double batch of these last October and slipped them into the kids’ treat bags for their friends. They were a hit! One mum even texted asking where I bought them. That’s when you know you’ve nailed it.

These spooky swirl bubble bars are a fun and festive way to add creativity to Halloween gifting—and they’re just as relaxing for us mums once the costume chaos is done. Whether you’re crafting for friends, markets, or your own cozy bath stash, this easy project will bring a little October magic into your home.
