DIY Valentine’s Day Bubble Bar – A Sweet Swirl Bath Treat

January 21, 2026 by Shellie Wilson Leave a Comment

If hearts, pink frosting, and fizzy baths are your love language—this one’s for you. These DIY Valentine’s Bubble Bars are everything we adore about handmade gifts: thoughtful, colorful, beautifully scented, and totally relaxing. Whether you’re making them for your partner, your kids’ teachers, or your Galentine gang, they’re guaranteed to spark a smile.

Each bar bubbles and foams under warm water while releasing a soft, romantic fragrance—think rose, vanilla, or even candy hearts. They’re a bath-time hug with a little bit of sparkle.

Why You’ll Love This Valentine’s Bubble Bar Recipe

  • It’s an easy DIY Valentine’s gift idea that feels handmade and heartfelt
  • Uses gentle, skin-loving ingredients
  • Looks like a swirled candy treat (but don’t eat it!)
  • Customizable with your favourite romantic scents
  • More budget-friendly than store-bought bath bombs
  • A great craft to do with teens or friends

Ingredients You’ll Need

Dry:

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup SLSA (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate – the bubble maker)

Wet:

  • 2 tbsp melted coconut oil or shea butter
  • 2 tbsp vegetable glycerin
  • 1 tsp polysorbate 80 (optional, keeps your tub clean and non-slip)

Extras:

  • Pink and red mica powder (or soap-safe liquid dye)
  • Essential oil or fragrance oil (rose, vanilla, strawberry, etc.)
  • Wax paper or parchment
  • Optional: fine biodegradable glitter or a mini heart sprinkle

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Make the Base

Mix your baking soda, cream of tartar, cornstarch, and SLSA in a large bowl. Stir slowly to avoid kicking up powder.

2. Add the Wet Ingredients

Combine melted oil, glycerin, fragrance oil, and polysorbate 80 in a small bowl. Slowly add this to the dry mix, stirring until you have a soft, pliable dough—like playdough.

3. Divide & Colour

Split into two bowls. Colour one pink and the other red. Knead gently until fully blended.

4. Roll & Swirl

On parchment paper, roll each colour into a rectangle. Stack the two layers, then gently roll them up into a log.

5. Slice Into Bars

Use a sharp knife to cut into thick slices. Each bar will reveal a beautiful pink-and-red swirl—like a sweet Valentine’s lolly.

6. Dry & Cure

Place the slices on wax paper and let dry 48–72 hours in a cool, dry spot. Once hard, they’re ready for wrapping or bath time.

How to Use a Bubble Bar

Crumble a piece under warm running water. The more pressure and movement, the more bubbles you’ll get. For a fluffier bath, use a mesh strainer under the tap.

Fragrance Suggestions for Valentine’s Day

  • Romantic Rose: Rose + Vanilla
  • Sweetheart Sugar: Cotton Candy + Strawberry
  • Spa Love: Lavender + Ylang Ylang + Peppermint
  • Flirty Citrus: Grapefruit + Neroli

Gifting Ideas

  • Wrap in cello bags with a heart sticker
  • Add to a spa gift set with handmade lip balm or sugar scrub
  • Include a tag that says “You Make My Heart Bubble”
  • Tie with baker’s twine and attach a dried rosebud or tiny spoon

I made a batch last year and my teen daughter claimed them for her friends’ Valentine gift bags—wrapped in pink tulle and paired with a little handwritten poem. Teenage approval? That’s the real Valentine win.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to mean grand gestures—it can be as simple as giving someone 20 bubbly minutes to themselves. These sweet little bubble bars are a reminder that handmade is always heartfelt, and pink swirls never go out of style.
