Homemade Baby Wipes

DIY Homemade Baby Wipes

When we bring little ones into the world we want to give them only the best care, right? But did you know that some common baby care products are full of harmful ingredients? Making baby wipes at home allows you to be in control of the ingredients used, is cheaper, and if you have a little one during the age of COVID, you know that sometimes finding baby wipes in stores can be a bit tricky

Store-bought baby wipes can be full of ingredients that aren’t suitable for a baby’s delicate skin. Let’s take a quick look at a couple of ingredients we want to avoid in baby care – especially on the baby’s delicate diaper area.

Fragrance – When a product lists “fragrance” on its list of ingredients, you can never be sure exactly what that fragrance is made up of. Companies are not required to list the individual ingredients in their fragrances, as it falls under trade secret protection, so it can really be full of just about anything – including irritants, neurotoxins, and endocrine gland disruptors. Additionally, when a company denotes that their product is “fragrance-free” you want to be wary because product labeling laws don’t require product manufacturers to list fragrances that are used to cover up odors from other ingredients in the product. That being said, the product you’re purchasing could be full of synthetic fragrance ingredients that aren’t included on the label.

Parabens – Parabens are a group of preservatives commonly used in commercial manufacturing. Generally, on a product’s label, you’ll see parabens being listed with words like propyl or butyl followed by -paraben. Parabens have long been suspected of disrupting the body’s endocrine system leading to hormonal imbalance.

Luckily, we have safe, natural alternatives for baby wipes. I like this recipe because it’s super simple to put together and doesn’t take much time, money, or effort.

3 Easy Steps to Making Homemade Baby Wipes:

1. Find or buy a re-usable baby wipe dispenser

2. You can make your wipes re-useable or disposable:

Homemade, reusable baby wipes

Reusable baby wipes are environmentally friendly and cost-effective. There is, of course, cleaning and laundering involved, but you’ll also never have to worry about running out of wipes since you can use these ones again and again. There are several options for reusable baby wipes such as cotton, bamboo, flannel, and other types of fabrics.

or

Homemade, disposable baby wipes

Homemade, disposable wipes are great because you’re still going to save money and won’t have any extra clean-up involved, making them incredibly convenient. After use, just toss like you would with store-bought baby wipes.

3. Make your solution and add it to the wipes.

Homemade Baby Wipes Solution

 16 oz distilled water
2 tbsp Aloe Vera Liquid or Gel
2 tbsp Witch Hazel – you want to make sure you’re using witch hazel that does NOT contain alcohol
2 tbsp Dr. Bronner’s Baby Castile Soap -OR- Dr. Bronner’s unscented Castile Soap

 1 tsp Vitamin E oil

 1 tsp Sweet Almond Oil
2 drops Roman Chamomile essential oil
 4 drops Lavender essential oil

To Make these: Simple add your wipes to your container, pour the solution over the wipes and allow them to sit for a little while to give the solution a chance to be fully absorbed. Make sure you close your wipes container so they don’t dry out =) Then, simply use them as you would any other wipe!

Have you made homemade baby wipes before? If so, how did you like them?
