I recently came across Pure Minerals Source, who sells mineral makeup. Not only area the colors beautiful, the prices are very affordable and the products are chemical free.
What is your business name and how did you come up with it? My business name is Pure Minerals Source. I came up with the name because the goal of my products offered is that they are all natural and contain no chemicals, preservatives, controversial minerals, artificial dyes, etcetera.

What is it that you make? 100% Pure Mineral Makeup
Where are you located? North Carolina
How and when did you get your start? I began researching mineral makeup which I use regularly when my cousin was given a positive diagnosis of breast cancer. She is still with us and doing well, but endured a double mastectomy at a young age. One of her statements that stuck in my mind and made me question many things was that she thought she had always lived a healthy life but now she just wonders what is in the foods she eats, the makeup she wears, and all products she uses in her life that she does not know about. That’s where I came up with my mission statement “May all women be able to enhance their beauty without sacrificing their health!”
What inspires you? Naturally Nature and all the Beautiful Diverse Women of the World. I’m a people watcher. I can always find the beauty in a person even if they aren’t wearing makeup. I also just see the beauty in all of God’s Creations. We live in a magnificent world.
What is your design process? It is pretty much all inspiration. I have a few colors named after friends, such as Jashoda. Jashoda is a real live lady from India who is a good friend of mine, very gorgeous and very exotic. Hence, the color Jashoda was born. It is a rich caramel when applied, just like her beautiful skin, and it has undertones of blue and turquoise which shimmer across the eye as you bat those lovely lashes. Those jeweled undertones are also reminders of India and the beautiful vibrant colors you’d expect to see in a sari. After inspiration strikes, I figure out which ingredients will make that color. Research the micas with my suppliers to make sure no nasties are in there before I order (many micas come premixed with things like aluminum – linked to Alzheimer’s, bismuth – linked to cancer, or are dyed with chemicals- cancer again.). If you just order mica and do not research each one, it could have all sorts of things in it you aren’t aware of and you are telling your customers unknowingly that your selling pure minerals and YOU AREN’T. I’m very selective due to this knowledge. So if I cant get a mica that is pure and colored by nature, you wont see it in my store and inadvertently on your vanity – period!
What’s your favorite thing about what you do? It’s a creative outlet for me. I grew up drawing, painting, and most of all being imaginative, something I never outgrew. But I feel like I’m providing a product which women of all economic classes deserve. Something healthy shouldn’t cost you an arm and a leg because it has less toxins in it. And it makes me feel good that I am capable of helping assist with a persons quest to be healthy. Least favorite? Well the only complaint I could possibly have (I feel very blessed to have this thing off the ground) would be that I am still working another job on a 14 hour shift. My main goal is to be able to go full time with this business and continue to ensure women everywhere have access to 100% pure, high quality products, at an affordable price.
Do you have any new and exciting plans for your business? My main goal is to keep the line expanding and evolving as well as to be able to eventually of course go full time with the business. I’d love to be able to have the time to add bath and body to the line as well as perfume. A perfume line is currently being formulated.
What was the last movie you went to see? Rarely go to the movies, but the last one was National Treasure with Nicholas Cage. It was a great movie. But I prefer to be in a social setting where I can talk with my friends. Maybe cook them a meal – or vise versa! I’m always up for letting them wine and dine me as well.
What is your most memorable travel experience? I went on a trip to Australia a few years back. It was wonderful. The people are a dream. Everyone is so nice there, and it is very lovely. Wonderful beaches, towns, food. The wild life is something else as well. It’s dangerous, exotic, and beautiful all wrapped in one. Just an amazing place. My only regret was I didn’t get out on a boat while visiting. I absolutely love the ocean. Snorkeling was a dream in Jamaica also, but don’t get me started!
Do you have any pets? I have a Black Lab Mix named Chelsea, and two Kitty Cats, Harley Jane, and Petey. As well as a little black kitty (a stray) I’m slowly getting to trust me. She is very thankful for her 2 squares a day she has started getting. She’s just gorgeous!
What do you like to do in your spare time? Well most of my spare time since I work such long hours at the hospital is spent working on the cosmetics line and filling orders. Outside of that, I enjoy going on walks/hikes with my dog, Chelsea, spending time with family and friends, of course. That goes back to letting the friends wine and dine me if I’m not cooking for them. I’m big on family. My father is 1 of 8 kids, my mother is 1 of 3 kids. We have all for the most part lived very close to each other all our lives and I had the privilege of growing up with all my cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and even a set of great grandparents I saw weekly. When I have time I enjoy camping trips, going to the beach.
Favorite place to visit or place you’d like to visit? That is a hard decision to make. I love anything and any place that has an ocean. I’m hoping to learn to sail at some point in my life. I’d love to sail around some of the islands visiting different ports of call, and just taking in all the beauty the ocean and various islands have to offer. Coconut milk anyone?
