Everyone has heard of the popular site Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia that is edited by its users. Sites that are using Wiki’s open source software (called Wikimedia) have been popping up everywhere, including several crafting-related ones.
Soap makers will be delighted to know that a site devoted exclusively to their craft has recently been started. Called Saponaceo (a play on the chemical process in soapmaking called saponifaction). According to the site, its mission is to concentrate soap-related information into tutorials and guides and build a cohesive network of like-minded, knowledgeable peers and mentors.
Saponaceo is divided up into several different areas: Soapmaking Resources & Technical Data, a Glossary, “How to” Guides, Soap Lye Calculators, Recipies and Scenting & Coloring Tools. It also includes directories for various companies, organizations, and individual soapmakers.
At the moment, several of the areas don’t contain information. But like any type of user-contributed website, the information and the website itself should continue to grow over time. So if you have some soapmaking knowledge or recipes that you would like to share with your fellow crafters, why not show it off by writing your own entry?
