15 Turmeric Beauty Recipes

August 29, 2021 by Shellie Wilson Leave a Comment

Turmeric is most famously used in Indian cooking, but did you realize how good it can be for your skin? Turmeric is a spice made from a plant in the same family as ginger. I love ginger!

I have been popping a spoonful of Turmeric powder into my tea or coffee when I have a migraine and it has been helping me considerably, which lead me to research the benefits of turmeric more.

You’ll be surprised at how effective it is in dealing with dark, uneven skin, as well as acne scars, with continuous application.

Turmeric has anti-pigmentation and brightening effects due to a potent compound- ‘curcumin’ in it. It helps lighten darkness around the eyes (dark circles) and improves the overall look of your skin pigment for fresh and glowing skin.

Turmeric face masks may also leave a slight yellow tint on your skin, even after you have rinsed off the turmeric mask. Thorough cleansing will get rid of the discoloration, so make sure you don’t do this face mask if you are about to go out. Unless you plan on using a little concealer that is.  The skin lightening turmeric soaps I have had no issue with, probably cause they are not as strong in color.

Here is one of my simplest and favorite facial recipes using turmeric.

Milk, Honey, And Turmeric Face Mask

1 teaspoon of turmeric powder

1 ½ tablespoon of honey

½ tablespoon of whole milk

Milk, honey, and turmeric face masks are great for calming pimples and acne.

Turmeric is a powerful spice that has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, making it a great ingredient for skincare. Here are some turmeric recipes for the skin:

Turmeric face mask: Mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder with 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt and 1 teaspoon of honey. Apply to your face and let sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

Turmeric body scrub: Mix 1/2 cup of coconut oil with 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder. Use as a scrub in the shower, concentrating on rough areas like elbows and knees.

Turmeric eye cream: Mix 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder with 1/4 cup of almond oil and 1/4 cup of shea butter. Heat the mixture over low heat until the shea butter is melted, then stir to combine. Let cool and apply a small amount to the under-eye area before bed.

Turmeric lip balm: Melt 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of beeswax in a double boiler. Stir in 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder and pour into small lip balm containers. Let cool and use as needed.

Turmeric toner: Mix 1/4 cup of witch hazel with 1/4 cup of filtered water and 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Shake well and apply to your face with a cotton pad after cleansing.
