Air Conditioner in a Bottle

I don’t know what the weather is like where you are, but across the United States, things have been heating up temperature-wise. Where I live, we’ve been in the 90s for a little while now with high humidity levels and according to the weather forecasters, this kind of weather is going to stick around for a little while.

While I love the hot, summer months, humidity and I are NOT friends! Between making my hair a frizzy mess (curly hair problems, anyone?) and making my skin feel sticky all day long, I’m just not a fan.

I always knew that there were essential oils that felt cooling, so I thought, what if I made a spray that could help cool the skin and make the mugginess not feel so bad? Read on for my recipe for what I call, Air Conditioner in a Bottle.

What I really like about this recipe is it’s very easy to make and can be taken with you anywhere. I like to take it to picnics, ballgames, anywhere that I’m going to be outside in the humidity! It would be great to have on hand this weekend if you’re out celebrating Independence Day =)

Ingredients:

Fractionated Coconut Oil

Aloe Gel

Peppermint Essential Oil (If using on children, use corn mint essential oil or spearmint in place of peppermint)

Lavender Essential Oil

Empty 2-ounce glass or stainless steel spray bottle.

Directions:

Add 1 ounce of fractionated coconut oil to your empty spray bottle.

Add 20 drops of peppermint (or corn mint/spearmint) and 16 drops of lavender essential oil

Close spray bottle and shake well to combine oils.

Add 1 ounce of aloe gel to the mixture and again shake well to combine.

To Use:

Shake vigorously before using and spray on the skin any time you need a little cool down. Avoid the eye area and clothing. For an added bonus, store your spray in the refrigerator for an added dose of coolness!
