DIY sensitive skin Laundry detergent

April 18, 2023 by Shellie Wilson Leave a Comment

Sensitive skin can be a challenging issue to deal with, especially when it comes to laundry. Many commercial laundry detergents contain harsh chemicals and fragrances that can irritate the skin, leaving it dry, itchy, and uncomfortable. As someone who has sensitive skin, I have always struggled to find a laundry detergent that is both gentle on my skin and effective at cleaning my clothes. It was either one or the other, and I had to make a trade-off.

However, I discovered that I could create my own laundry detergent at home, which was both gentle and effective. Not only did it solve my skin problems, but it also saved me some money in the long run. Homemade laundry detergent is quite easy to make, and with a few simple ingredients, you can make your own sensitive skin-friendly laundry detergent at home.

When making a DIY laundry detergent, it is important to consider the ingredients you use. Most commercial laundry detergents contain harsh chemicals, fragrances, and synthetic ingredients that can irritate the skin. By making your own detergent, you have full control over what goes into it, making it a great option for those with sensitive skin.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 cup washing soda
1 cup borax
1 bar of mild soap (such as Dr. Bronner’s)
Essential oils (optional)
Instructions:

Grate the bar of soap using a cheese grater. You can also chop it into small pieces and pulse it in a food processor.

Combine the grated soap, washing soda, and borax in a large mixing bowl. Mix well until everything is evenly distributed.

If you want to add some fragrance to your detergent, add a few drops of essential oils of your choice. Lavender, tea tree, and peppermint are all great options for their natural antibacterial properties.

Store your DIY laundry detergent in an airtight container, such as a mason jar.

To use your homemade laundry detergent, simply add 1-2 tablespoons to your washing machine, depending on the size of your load. You can also use this detergent for hand-washing your delicates and other sensitive items.

One of the best things about making your own laundry detergent is that it’s much more cost-effective than buying store-bought options. This recipe yields about 32 ounces of detergent, which should last you for several loads.

Another benefit of making your own laundry detergent is that it’s much better for the environment. Most store-bought options are packed with harsh chemicals and come in plastic containers, which can take hundreds of years to decompose in landfills. By making your own detergent, you can reduce your carbon footprint and do your part to help the planet.

Overall, I’ve been extremely happy with my DIY laundry detergent. Not only is it gentle on my skin, but it also leaves my clothes feeling clean and fresh. Plus, it’s a great way to save money and reduce waste. If you’re someone with sensitive skin or just looking for a more natural, eco-friendly alternative to store-bought detergents, I highly recommend giving this DIY laundry detergent recipe a try.
