Weleda Salt Toothpaste Review

June 18, 2011 by Nellie Lee Luhrmann 1 Comment

Celebrating 90 years since Weleda‘s founding in 1921 by  renowned Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner and Dutch medical doctor Dr Ita Wegman who together developed anthroposophic medicine (the simple yet powerful way to utilise nature’s medicines to stimulate the body to ‘heal itself’. )
Weleda has maintained this past wisdom and endeavours to source the finest ingredients from specially selected biodynamic and organic farms to produce health-enhancing herbal and homoeopathic formulas and exquisite body care products. Weleda have placed great importance on there ecological, social and economic responsibilities to respect the world around us. Weleda believe the well-being of the planet is vital to the well-being of the people who call it home. At every stage of production from cultivation to final product, Weleda uphold only the highest standards. Weleda products are free of synthetic preservatives (including parabens), fragrances, colours, mineral oils and emulsifying agents.  Additionally Weleda never test its personal care products on animals. Weleda strive to make the purest products possible. Using around 1,000 natural raw materials for there products, roses and pomegranates from Turkey, iris and argan oil from Morocco, sesame seed oil from Mexico and lemons from Argentina and Italy are just a few examples. All around the world, Weleda promote biodiversity and support organic and socially sustainable cultivation projects. Fair Trade is something Weleda have been passionately committed to even before there was a popular buzzword for it. FAIRTRADE  it’s an organized social movement by which companies empower small producers and promote sustainability. When sourcing raw materials, Weleda work together with local partners, small-scale farming initiatives and cultivation projects around the world. In order to gather all of the ingredients they need for there products, Weleda have developed and cultivated partnerships throughout the world while committing to sustainable and fair practices.  The company’s own biodynamic cultivation of medicinal plants has a long tradition. In addition to Weleda’s gardens in Switzerland and France, Schwäbisch Gmünd in Germany is primarily the central production site for plant extracts. Being the largest medicinal plant garden in Europe, around 260 species are cultivated. Another positive is that all Weleda’s products carry the NATRUE Logo

A big thank you to Lucy Brooks (PR  rep for Weleda in Australia ) for sending me out some products to review.

Today I am going to tell you about Weleda’s Salt Toothpaste

With natural Sodium bicarbonate to help neutralise harmful plaque acids and prevent the build up of plaque.

The sea salt in Salt Toothpaste increases saliva flow, encouraging the body keep the gums clean, healthy and strong. Soothing Myrrh and Krameria help keep the gums and oral cavity healthy. The slightly alkaline formula neutralises cavity-promoting acids after meals. Half an hour after cleansing, the mouth’s normal acidity is restored.

Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Water, Glycerin, Fragrance: a mixture of pure essential oils, Silica, Blackthorn (Prunus Spinosa) Juice, Guar Gum, Sodium Chloride, Myrrh Extract, Krameria Extract, Aesculus (Horse Chestnut) Extract, Aesculin, Arum Maculatum*; Alcohol, Jojoba Oil.

What can I say except that I was very excited to try this product as I had never used something like this before. I was a bit shocked  at first by the taste  as it is not what I am used to nor did it foam up like “regular” toothpaste. If you can get past that bit ( which I did quite easily after I compared ingredients in this toothpaste to the toothpaste I had in my cupboard ) then you will be like me a toothpaste convert. Big thumbs up Weleda you tick all my boxes.  Weleda Salt Toothpaste you  certainly cleaned my teeth better, they were sparkling and my mouth may not of smelt or tasted minty fresh but you did however  provide as sensational whole mouth clean that lasts. I have been  using Weleda Salt Toothpaste since early March and I have found over this time that my teeth appear whiter. The true test when I went to see my dentist 2 weeks ago…………. verdict………….. no big dentist bill ( no bill at all actually who would of thought huh ) , no drooling on myself from an anaesthetised  mouth due to needing a filling.  Just me leaving with a big smile on my face  a skip in my step and money in my pocket. Needless to say I celebrated my savings with chocolate 🙂

So now I can sense your desire to try Weleda’s Salt Toothpaste, lucky for you Weleda is available worldwide you can select a stockist in your region by clicking here. Alternatively  you can buy Weleda online and be sure  follow them on Twitter & FB for promotions/update son all there products.

This is hands down my favorite toothpaste. I (should but don’t) care about SLS or fluoride… I just love this paste! I find that because it doesn’t foam I spend more time brushing. I used this paste for years, then due to where I lived I switched back to regular toothpaste. Big mistake! The last 3 trips to the dentist have left a crowded place behind a tooth feeling “crusty”. I asked my hygienist to pay special attention to the area, and she said it was clean but had scaling which made it feel unclean. Well, I’m sure she meant well, but she was wrong! After using this paste for 3 days, the area feels squeeky clean again! I’m back, Weleda… for good!
