Let me paint the picture: winter dryness, hormonal redness, and a cheeky little patch of eczema on my wrist that just wouldn’t quit. I wanted a soap that felt like an old-school oat bath, but prettier. Something you’d use on a rainy Sunday with a big cup of tea and a sigh of relief.
This soothing soap is made with shea butter base, finely ground oatmeal, calming rose clay, and a splash of coconut milk—a comforting combo for dry, reactive skin. I’ve made this for myself, for friends going through chemo, and even as baby shower gifts (just skip the essential oils).
Why Oatmeal & Rose Clay Are Magic
- Colloidal oatmeal calms itchiness and irritation
- Rose clay gently detoxes without over-drying
- Shea butter base provides deep hydration
- Coconut milk adds creaminess and lactic acid exfoliation
Ingredients You’ll Need
- 1 lb shea butter melt and pour soap base
- 1 tbsp colloidal oatmeal (or finely ground oats)
- 1 tsp rose clay
- 1 tbsp coconut milk or milk powder
- 10 drops lavender essential oil (or rose absolute for luxe scent)
- Soap mold
- Rubbing alcohol
How to Make Oatmeal Rose Soap
- Cut up your shea butter soap base and melt in the microwave in short bursts.
- Stir in the oatmeal, rose clay, and coconut milk. Mix gently but thoroughly.
- Add your essential oils last to preserve scent.
- Pour into your soap mold and lightly tap to release air bubbles.
- Spritz with rubbing alcohol and allow to harden for 1–2 hours.
- Let cure overnight and wrap in paper or shrink wrap for storage.
Add-Ons & Customizations
- Add dried rose petals for a pretty top layer.
- Skip fragrance for an unscented version suitable for ultra-sensitive skin.
- Use goat’s milk base instead of shea for an extra creamy lather.
