I don’t know about you, but I absolutely LOVE when my hair feels healthy, soft, looks shiny, and just feels good. I’ve put my poor hair through a lot over the years (think chemical straighteners, dyes, bleaching, a couple of perms when I thought my already curly hair needed more curl, and then subsequent straighteners when it was TOO curly), but now I focus on keeping it healthy and strong.
Today, I have a collection of recipes that will help you do just that. Whether you need tips and tricks for detangling your hair without pain, a way to grow your hair more quickly, or something to help you manage your curly locks, this roundup has something for everyone! Enjoy!

Basic Homemade Shampoo Recipe
1 cup liquid castile soap
1 cup water
1 tablespoon jojoba oil
10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil
Mix all the ingredients in a bottle and shake well before use. This basic recipe can be customized by adding different essential oils or adjusting the amount of jojoba oil for different hair types.
Coconut Milk Shampoo
1/4 cup coconut milk
1/4 cup liquid castile soap
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon coconut oil
10-15 drops of lavender essential oil
Mix all the ingredients in a bottle and shake well before use. The coconut milk and oil nourish and moisturize hair while the honey and lavender oil promote hair growth and leave a lovely scent.
Herbal Shampoo
1/2 cup dried herbs (such as rosemary, chamomile, lavender, or peppermint)
2 cups water
1 cup liquid castile soap
1 tablespoon jojoba oil
10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil
Boil the herbs in water for 20 minutes, then let the mixture cool and strain out the herbs. Mix the herbal infusion with the remaining ingredients in a bottle and shake well before use. This herbal shampoo is great for those with sensitive scalps and can help soothe and heal any scalp issues.
Avocado Shampoo
1 ripe avocado
1/2 cup liquid castile soap
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
10-15 drops of peppermint essential oil
Mash the avocado in a bowl until smooth, then mix in the remaining ingredients. Apply the mixture to wet hair, lather well, and rinse thoroughly. This shampoo is great for dry and damaged hair, as the avocado and apple cider vinegar help to nourish and restore hair.

We were always taught to not use brushes on set hair, but wide toothed combs to avoid breaking out hair. Our hair was always very long and very tangled even with conditioner. I wouldn’t recommend using a brush.

Hi Jan! Using a wet brush won’t break your hair. If you have curly hair, when it’s wet is the ONLY time you should use a brush in it if you don’t want to cause frizz or disturb your curl pattern =)
