Love the Skin You’re In – One Last Recipe

July 30, 2021 by Shellie Wilson Leave a Comment

Everything seems to be centered around skincare these days and I’m loving that taking care of the skin we’re in is currently a trend!

I mentioned in an earlier post that I have formally studied DIY product formulation and I just recently enrolled in a school to get an actual degree in formulating various products for the skin and hair. While some products are easy to put together with simple kitchen tools and ingredients, others take a little more thought, planning, and experimenting to get right. It’s the experimenting part that really makes me love making new products.

One of my favorite ways of taking care of my skin is using a DIY Facial Serum that keeps my skin moisturized, healthy, and glowing. Incidentally, facial serums were one of the first products I learned to make as part of my formulating education. They’re simple to make, you don’t need many ingredients or hardly any equipment at all, and they’re easily customizable to your skin’s unique needs.

Today, I’m going to help you formulate your own facial serum =)

Ingredients/Tools

Carrier Oil(s) of Choice – More on this in a minute

Essential Oil(s) of Choice – More on this in a minute also

30 mL glass dropper bottle

Tablespoon for measuring

How-To

Measure out 1 tablespoon of each of your carrier oils (if you’re using two) – if you’re only using 1, measure out 2 tablespoons and place them into an empty glass dropper bottle.

Choose your essential oils and add a total of 9 drops to your carrier oils.

Close the dropper bottle tightly and roll it in your hands to mix all ingredients thoroughly.

To Use: After cleansing your face, add 9 drops of your serum to your fingertips and massage into the skin in a small circular motion, finish up with your moisturizer of choice. Repeat daily in the am and in the pm

Now, I said I’d get to the carrier oils and essential oils in a minute, and this is where you get to choose your own adventure. I’m going to give you some essential oils and carrier oils and what they do for the skin and YOU get to pick the ones you want to use.

Carrier Oils:

Sweet Almond Oil – Good for all skin types

Apricot Kernel Oil – heals and rejuvenates the skin – good for delicate, prematurely aging, and sensitive skin

Avocado Oil – Good for undernourished, aging, dry skin

Hazelnut Oil – nourishes and softens skin, good for all skin types

Jojoba Oil – regulates dry or oily skin, good for all skin types

Essential Oils:

Normal Skin – German Chamomile, Rose, Geranium, Lavender, Sandalwood, Ylang ylang

Oily Skin – Virginian Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Cypress, Geranium, Lavender, Juniper Berry, Tea Tree

Dry Skin – German Chamomile, Roman Chamomile, Geranium, Lavender, Jasmine

Combination Skin – Geranium, Lavender, Sandalwood

Mature Skin – Frankincense, Lavender, German Chamomile, Roman Chamomile, Rose

Acne-Prone Skin – Geranium, Juniper Berry, Lavender, Petitgrain, Tea Tree

You can mix and match different carrier oils and essential oils to make a serum that is truly unique to you.

Unfortunately, this is my last day writing for this blog and I just want to thank all of you for reading along. I hope I’ve been able to help you create some awesome bath and body products and also helped you to learn something new. It’s been an honor writing to all of you.

Take care and as always Happy Crafting!

-Angie
